Preliminary

  1. Fieldwork 1: Brainstorm
    1. one everyday activity (ex. Washing a car, tying a shoe) – Something that you or someone else does.
    2. one common occurrence (ex. sun rising, coffee brewing) – Think of an occurrence as the “context” or situation in which the activity is happening
    3. Outline each activity into between 3 to 7 steps.
    4. Create a card for each step of the activity and the occurrence on 3”x5” cards. At this point you need only use words to describe the step (ex. “scoop grounds from coffee can”).
    5. (Optional )Shuffle the cards randomly to find new ways of ordering the events in sequence.
    6. (Optional) Create a storyboard based off of one or two of these new shuffled sequences to serve as the basis for your video project.

I browsed through a variety of ideas before deciding to do video games as the activity and rain as the occurence. I had a very complex storyboard idea to begin with, but wasn’t going to be able to execute the ideas properly. Therefore, I went with a simpler approach and still was able to get the plot across.

  1. Fieldwork 2: You now are ready to storyboard your sequence. Translate each card in your sequence into a storyboard panel. This is a sketch that indicates point of view (PoV) and scope. It should also include notes about imagery, style, camera movement, subject movement, transition (typically only exit transitions) and structural juxtapositions.

Shooting and Editing

You are now ready to shoot or find your footage and edit your video. The video must be no shorter than 120 seconds and no longer than 180 seconds. You may repurpose found video footage or still images for your video, but be sure to use footage with good resolution. You may choose to have audio or not but NO MUSIC OR DIALOG use ambient (actual sound). (Video can be seen at the top of post)

During my shooting/editing process I came across many obstacles. I am unfamiliar with most editing softwares, and haven’t ever really tried to record something on my own accord. There were problems with reflections in the screen. Relying on my schedule to line up with the weather. I had little knowledge with the overall medium, but felt that I had a solid execution.

The meaning behind the video is simply just a rainy day and games. I wanted to created a feeling of nostalgia and comfort for those who find that in video games. I was never really a huge fan until high school, and now they have become a fun pastime that others can enjoy alongside me.
